LIS Tops National Robotic Open Competition

Labuan International School Robotic Teams emerged as the 1st Runner Up and in 4th Place in the National Robotic Open Competition (NROC) held on 30th September at HELP International School. Both LIS Team A and Team B ranked in the Top 5 winners out of the 11 teams. NROC is a new category in the robotic competition which was introduced for private schools students aged 7 to 18 years old in 2016. 

The National Robotic Competition has been organised by the Ministry of Education and SASBADI Sdn Bhd since 2005 for students aged 7 to 18 years old.

The aim is to increase primary school students' motivation to excel in Mathematics and Science and better prepare them for careers in Engineering, Computer Science and Education through hands-on learning experiences in building and programming robots. 

The theme for the competition this year was Sustainable Tourism. 

A total of 11 teams from 9 Primary Private and International Schools from all over Malaysia competed in Regular Pro Category NROC this year. LIS Team A was only five marks behind the Champion and Team B came in fourth place. 

Labuan International School was represented by 2 Primary School teams in the NROC held at HELP International School, Shah Alam, Selangor. The two teams were the Champion and the 1st runner up in the State Level Robotic Competition (NRC) held in Labuan on 18 August 2017.

 The 1st runner up team A consisted of Standard/Year 5 students Jade Zhi Ping Langshaw (Year 5), Faris Hakim bin Mohd Shukri (Standard 5) and Thoriq Zulkarnain (Year 4).

The 4th Place winning Team B consisted of Walid Tawasil (Year 5), Aleeya Marissa binti Mohamad Syazwuan (Standard 5) and Anjana Natalie Menon (Standard 5). 

The two teams received medals and certificates respectively. 

The robotic teams were mentored by LIS teachers Ms Warnnie Musah and Mr Abdul Rahim Shah. 

The Principal of Labuan International School, Puan Zainab Batin congratulated the teams and teachers on their endless efforts to put LIS in the Top 5 Robotic Teams in Malaysia and hopes the school will win National Champion and represent Malaysia in World Robotic Olympiad.
